An Afternoon At Hippodrome Circus In Great Yarmouth

If you’ve ever visited Great Yarmouth, the only way you’ll have failed to spot the hundreds of posters advertising the Hippodrome circus is if you had your eyes shut the entire time. There’s even a crazy looking circus car driving up and down the high street pulling the punters in.

It’s clearly a popular tourist attraction, but I get the sense it’s also a favourite with the locals too, with 4 different shows lined up throughout each year. After our visit, it’s easy to see why.

The show we attended was the summer ‘Circus and water spectacular’ – and it was quite a show!

I’ve not been to a circus since I was about 6, so this was a real treat for me. If I’m honest, we were all going because I wanted to. Nobody else seemed too bothered about it. But after the first 5 minutes, I can safely say I wasn’t the only one having a great time!

We were treated to around an hour and a half of non-stop genuinely on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment.

From jaw-dropping stunts performed by daredevil trapeze artists to seemingly impossible juggling on top of ridiculously¬†difficult-to-balance on items, the kids’ faces were a picture.

They couldn’t take her eyes off the stage, as people flew through the air, tossed fire about, juggled things with their mouth and fell from the sky, all at the same time as giving everyone a giggle.

The stunts they performed were out of this world. Honestly, they performed tricks which don’t even seem humanly possible.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the kids so quiet for so long, with their mouths wide open throughout the show! The only time my daughter spoke was to say her heart was pounding so fast when she thought the people were going to miss the net. Luckily, they didn’t!

Just when we thought we’d seen it all, the next thing we knew was the floor opening up and a swimming pool appearing in the centre of the stage. It was quite surreal and totally unexpected. For the second half of the show, we were treated to displays of synchronised swimmers and lots more – although I don’t want to give too much away for anyone thinking of going!

After the show, my husband and both kids (aged 11 and 14) all said it was the best thing they’d done all holiday. We were all super impressed, and would highly recommend this show to families with kids of all ages. The slapstick comedy throughout was brilliantly balanced to be genuinely entertaining for both the adults and the kids. It’s really nice to find something which every single member of the family can genuinely enjoy together with nobody complaining they’re bored!

Next time you’re in Great Yarmouth, be sure to check it out! You can book directly on their website here.

Disclosure: Our family received complimentary tickets to allow us to review this attraction.
