PortAventura Family Theme Park, Costa Dorada, Spain.
If it’s thrills and spills your kids want, but you can’t quite stretch to Disneyworld, (or just want an alternative) PortAventura is the place for you!
PortAventura is closer to home than Florida, in the Spanish sun and probably half the price too depending on which time of the year you go!
This is the most popular theme park in the whole of Spain, boasting 3 million visitors each year! Based on the Costa Dorada, PortAventura boasts its very own man made sandy beach, complete with sunloungers, parasols and a beach bar. There’s a pick of other beaches nearby, too. The popular Salou for a buzz and watersports, and Cambrils for a quieter option. The town of Salou is 5 minutes away by car, and Cambrils just 20 minutes.
The theme park at PortAventura is huge, so huge in fact, it’s divided into 6 manageable themes. These include the Far West section, where you can take a white-knuckle white water raft along the Grand Canyon – and the Mediterranean section, where you can try the Furios Baco, the fastest rollercoaster in Europe. For the times when your stomach needs a rest from all those rides, there’s also entertainment on site such as can-can shows, fireworks displays and acrobatics, too.
The Caribe Aquatic Park is where all of the water slides are located, including;
El Triángulo de las Bermudas – includes a wave machine
Bahama Beach – A sedate, relaxing pool for the quieter times
Zona Indoor – Exclusively for the smaller visitors to enjoy less intense water slides undercover
Mambo Limbo – Hair-raising water slides for the brave!
El Tifón – A twisty water slide system
El Río Loco – A lazy river… or is it?!
El Torrente, Barracudas, Ciclón Tropical, King Khajuna, Rapid Race – Yet more thrill-seekers water slides
and for the little ones of course, a variety of outdoor splash pools and water slides.
In 2017 PortAventura will be adding a fabulous Ferrari World Park to it’s collection too! There’s going to be no chance for anyone visiting this place to get bored!
If you’re thinking this all sounds great, but what about some time out for the adults? Well, hop on a train and in just 1 hour you can be in Barcelona for a change of scenery. Here, in the capital of Catalonia, you can see Gaudí’s unfinished cathedral, La Sagrada Familia, plus modern architecture like Frank Gehry’s fish sculpture, its glass front glistening in the sunshine. After sightseeing, you can enjoy tapas along Las Ramblas, the famous pedestrianised street where street performers entertain diners. Perfecto!
Want to visit, but want to book your flights, hotel and tickets separately? Not a problem!
