If you’re visiting Manchester, Liverpool or just flying from Manchester airport with kids in tow, you won’t get much better than a stay over at The Park Royal hotel the night before. In fact, I’d book a couple of nights – you’ll feel so relaxed after your stay, you’ll feel like life has slowed right down!
The hotel pool is open to families with children between 9-12 and 3-7pm every day – and they’re made to feel more than welcome. Despite the hotel also doubling up as a spa, there’s no stuffiness here at all during the child-friendly hours.
There are free fluffy towels to use, as well as shampoo in the showers, hairdryers and straighteners. There’s also a machine to spin dry wet costumes (which my kids think are amazing!).
The hotel itself is extremely child-friendly, with daily activities organised (including everything from pizza making to a free nightly cinema for the kids). There’s also a children’s check-in desk to give them the chance to let the hotel know about their favourite foods and drinks.
As if that wasn’t enough, the kids are treated to milk and cookies on their first night in the hotel, which goes down very well as you can imagine!
If you choose to stay in the hotel to eat, you won’t be disappointed. The restaurant offers very reasonable packages with dinner and breakfast included – all of which are fantastic, full of variety to suit every palate and bursting with flavour!
The restaurant staff are lovely, and can’t do enough to help you to relax and enjoy your meal. It’s a really nice experience and it’s great to not feel rushed through the courses at all so you can take the time to chat and savour the flavours. There’s plenty of choice too, so whether you eat meat, are a vegetarian or just want a pizza, you won’t be stuck for something delicious to eat.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, spacious and full of everything you need for a comfortable stay such as toiletries, complimentary drinks and a TV packed with lots of channels. You even get a fluffy bathrobe each, it feels very luxurious!
I highly recommend upgrading to a king superior suite if you can stretch to it – and if you want to go one step further, get 2 interconnecting rooms so the kids have a room to themselves.
This means they get a bit of space (especially useful if they’re a bit older) and you do too! Booking interconnecting rooms also means you’ll all benefit from sharing 2 bathrooms, which really speeds up the cleaning process after a dip in the pool if you prefer to get showered back at your room.
A great location
The Park Royal is a 4-star hotel run by the Qhotels group. It’s ideally located for a number of tourist attractions, such as:
There are 2 pubs within walking distance if you fancy something other than the hotel restaurant food (although believe me, once you’ve tasted it, you probably won’t want to leave!) The Stretton Fox is our favourite local. The food here is gourmet-level, and it’s not over-the-top pricey for what you get. If you’re a little more budget conscious though, the Cat & Lion just across the road is a Greene King pub and it’s great for a quick meal with the kids.
The spa is for over 16’s only, but don’t let that put you off. It’s easy to take it in turns to use the steam room and sauna while your partner entertains the kids in the pool. Or you could even book yourself in for a treatment – there are lots to choose from!
A great Cheshire hotel for a family break!
The Park Royal hotel is brilliant for families with children – we’ve visited it personally and can vouch for the welcoming atmosphere you’ll receive here when travelling with kids. Take a look at our personal experience here.
